Aida Sotelo Lucas, a beloved wife, mother, sister and aunt, passed away on August 21, 2025, at the age of 84. Born in Havana, Cuba on August 1, 1941, Aida was a compassionate, kind-hearted individual who lit up every room she was in and touched the lives of many with her warmth and magnetic spirit.
Aida, along with her husband, Leonardo, and young daughter, Aidita, left Cuba in 1963 and immigrated to the United States settling down in Elizabeth, New Jersey, before moving to Miami in 1976. Aida had a dynamic career, working in banking for the Royal Bank of Canada, in real estate as a licensed broker, and lastly as a library assistant at Florida International University. She was a loving and caring mother to her daughter and supportive wife to her husband of 65 years.
Her greatest role, however, was as a nurturing and devoted grandmother to her two granddaughters who she cared for as infants and toddlers, continuing to support them throughout their school years. She will be dearly missed by all those she leaves behind: her husband (Leonardo Lucas), daughter (Aida Lucas Rockwell), her granddaughters (Kristen Rockwell, Rachel Rockwell), her dear brother (Adolfo Sotelo) and her nieces and nephews (Marisa Sotelo, Marlene Sotelo, Alex Sotelo and Michael Sotelo). May she rest in eternal peace.
A visitation to honor Aida's life will be held at Caballero Rivero Westchester, located at 8200 Bird Rd, Miami, FL 33155. Family and friends are invited to gather on August 25, 2025, from 6:00 pm until midnight.
