

On March 10, 2016, Alberto, age 82 of Plantation, Florida, passed away peacefully from this life after a long battle with Parkinson's. He died at home surrounded by his family and supported by his faith. He was born in Santa Clara, Cuba on June 22, 1933. A graduate of the University of Havana School of Architecture,1956,he came to the United States as an exile with his wife Vilma on October 31,1960.
Alberto worked for over 50 years as an accomplished architect and general contractor. He was elected president of the Broward chapter of the American Institute of Architecture in 1976 And was one of the founding members of the Association of Cuban Architects in Exile. He loved his profession but loved his family more. He was always proud of his Cuban heritage and deeply appreciative of the freedom and opportunity provided by his adopted country.
Alberto was always a true gentleman who loved life and it's simple pleasures.
For his family and those who knew him well, he always had a witty observation about events and life. His sense of humor was present throughout his life even during his illnness. Given his artistic skill, he frequently drew insightful sketches that captured many humorous events and good times.
He also loved music. He played the piano and would liven up any family gathering with his music.
Alberto was pre-deceased by his parents, Rafael and Olimpia Gomez and by his cherished daughter, Malvy. He leaves behind his wife of 56 years, Vilma, his son Alberto Jr., his daughter in law, Nicole, and grandchildren, Matthew, Christopher and Caroline of Tampa, Fl; Alberto also leaves behind his brother Rafael and his sister in law, Montserrat of Jacksonville, Florida;his sister Carmen Andreu and his brother in law Juan Andreu of Miami and his sister Consuelo Gomez of Miami. He also leaves behind his nieces and nephews, Jesus and Anamary Perea and Juan and Carmen C. Andreu. He also leaves behind his beloved cousins Bertin Perez and his wife Kiddy; Maria Fayos and her husband Juan; Rodolfo Mendez and his wife Diana and Manuel Menendez, as well as numerous other family members friends and colleagues.
A wake service will be held at Caballero Rivero Funeral Home, 11655 S. W. 117 avenue, Miami, Fl on Sunday the 13th from 4pm to 10pm.
A Funeral mass commencing at 11 am will be held at St. Catherine of Siena, 9200 S.W. 107th avenue, Miami, Fl 33176 with internment immediately following at Woodlawn Park South, same address as the Caballero Funeral Home.
