

Beth Lynn Kirk was born on April 1, 1947 in Louisville, Kentucky and passed away here in Miami on August 26, 2026. She was an only child to John and Sue Kirk. When she was an infant, they moved to South Florida and bought a home in North Miami, where Beth attended school. She graduated in 1965 from high school and went on to the University of Florida.
Beth earned a Bachelor’s degree in teaching. Upon graduation in 1969, she returned to North Miami. Beth took a social studies position at Riviera Middle School. A few years later, she and another colleague moved to Howard D. McMillan Middle School in the 70’s. There she became the Director of Florida Geography Bees held in Jacksonville each year. She also wrote curriculum for the social studies department in Dade County.
In 1997, Mrs. Kirk – Kent took a position as department head of social studies to open a new school in West Kendall called Howard A. Doolin Middle School. She taught there for numerous years until retirement, after 42 years of service. Mrs. Kirk -Kent married the love of her life in Las Vegas on New Year’s Eve back in the 1980’s. She and Rick were together until he passed away on July 4th, 2005.
Beth is survived by her cousin Donna in Kentucky, her friends and colleagues from Doolin and her beloved Ramos Family. Mrs. Kirk-Kent will be missed by all who worked with her and were inspired by her amazing life.
