Predeceased by his parents Owen and Patricia McGowan of Fall River, Massachusetts, Christopher leaves five sisters, a brother, and their spouses: Crissie McGowan and Brien Matson; Jo McGowan and Ravi Chopra; Mary McGowan and Tom Synan; Owen and Sally McGowan; Margaret and Brian McNeill and Lucy McGowan.
Single all his life, Chris was especially devoted to his 16 nieces and nephews, two of whom predeceased him.
After serving in the US Air Force, Chris worked for American Airlines while also serving in the National Guard for 20 years. One of the perks of working for an airline was free flights for designated family members and Chris was tireless in making this available to any who needed it. With family in places as far-flung as Hawaii, New Orleans, and India, he would spend hours monitoring all possible options in an effort to orchestrate the most efficient itinerary, always aiming for a place in First Class. The combination of his talent for logistics and his stubborn determination meant he succeeded most of the time. We were spoiled for life after he retired.
In Miami, Chris had a wide circle of friends, including his long-time next-door neighbor, and a diverse group of people from all walks of life, most of whom he met up with every evening at his favorite local pub, The Sandbar.
Chris took care of a maternal aunt for many years and was her primary caregiver at the time of her death. In her will, Aunt Chris bequeathed him her house and he lived there for the rest of his life. A firm believer in paying it forward, in his own will Christopher directed that the house be sold and the money shared equally amongst his 14 living nieces and nephews.
Christopher will be remembered in many ways: as Mr Logistics, as a Voracious Reader, as the Crossword Puzzle King and as a fierce and lifelong Democrat. But what his friends and family will mostly recall is the steadfast loyalty and unending generosity he extended to those around him. Rest in peace, Chris.
