Smitty loved his grandchildren and was always thrilled to see them and always asked as to their well being when they weren't present.
On December 15, 2018, his great grandson, John David (3yrs old) got ahold of my phone and took what may be the last photo taken of Smitty before he entered assisted living.

All of my life I have looked forward to every time I was able to see Uncle Conrad!  Whether in WV or FL, he made visits special with all of his stories and love.  I’m sure you all know; stories from growing up to fishing, airlines to square dancing with Barbara. He seemed to have a love for life and was sure to live it to the fullest!  I like to think he inspired me to do the same. We all will miss him!

I grew up calling him Uncle Connie, even though most called him Conrad. My favorite thing I remember is seeing him for the first time that year, usually at the Fourth of July celebration at Grandma and Grandpa Smith's house, and he'd always give me that tight side hug and kiss on the forehead and ask me how my life was going. He'd give his undivided attention when I was talking, no matter who else was there or how many other conversations were going on, and no matter how old I was, whether 8 or 18. When he was talking to you, he was focused on you and your story. That made a great impression on me as a child. It showed he really cared. 

Uncle Conrad, the best storyteller.  You meant the world to me.  Always looked forward to your visits in West Virginia.  Heavens gain is our loss.  Love, hugs and many prayers to Barb, Lisa, and family.
