Danilo Arquimedes de Soto, MD, passed away on Saturday, February 15, 2025, at the age of 94. Born on July 27, 1930, in Higüey, Dominican Republic, Danilo’s life was one of adventure, passion, and dedication. His journey took him from the warm, vibrant streets of the Dominican Republic to Brooklyn, New York, before eventually settling in Howard Beach, Queens, and Long Island. Through it all, he remained a man who loved life, embraced challenges, and inspired everyone around him.
A man of many talents, Danilo was an accomplished musician with a deep love for both classical and jazz music. He played multiple instruments, including the alto saxophone, clarinet, piano, and trumpet, often using his music to connect with others and express the emotions that words could not. He cherished the beauty of music, and it remained a lifelong passion. Danilo also had a strong commitment to physical fitness and pursued bodybuilding with great dedication. His love for strength training was more than a hobby—it was an essential part of who he was, helping him maintain his vigor and discipline throughout his life.
Professionally, Danilo made an impact as an anesthesiologist, a career he dedicated years of his life to, providing compassionate care to countless patients. His expertise and thoughtful approach earned him respect and admiration in the medical community. But his passions were not limited to medicine. Later in life, Danilo embraced a fast-paced, adventurous lifestyle, owning a motorcycle and enjoying the thrill it provided. His love for exploration didn’t stop there—he also became a licensed private pilot, living his dream of soaring above the world and embracing the freedom of flight.
Danilo also found solace and joy on the water, where he spent many weekends on his boat. The water was his retreat, a place where he could relax and recharge. His love for the outdoors and adventure shaped much of his life, but it was always his family that remained at the center of his heart. A deeply family-oriented man, Danilo was the proud father of five children—four daughters and one son—and a devoted grandfather to 14 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren. His family was his greatest treasure, and he cherished the time spent with each of them.
Danilo was preceded in death by his beloved wife Lidia of over 65 years, who passed away in 2023. Together, they built a life full of love, joy, and memories that will endure forever. Now, they are reunited, and their love story continues beyond this life. Danilo’s legacy of strength, passion, and devotion to his family and his many pursuits will live on in the hearts of those who loved him. He will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
