For those who loved and knew him best he was "simply" Skip, a nickname since childhood. To his family, he was a caring and loving son, dad, granddad, great grandad and husband.
A favorite quote he loved to share with his kids and grandkids..."The best gold is found in people and things around us, because you can spend as much as you want and there will always be joy and happiness left over"
Born on September 6th, 1929 in Chicago, Illinois. He attended the University of Florida and held a Bachelor of Science in Accounting. He joined and became a proud member of the United States Coast Guard. An entrepreneur at heart, he started a successful chemical company, Aquachem, which he sold to Georgia Pacific, then retired. He also became a stock broker and this became his "job" post retirement. His sailing days began as a member of the Coconut Grove Sailing Club, followed by a membership at Coral Reef Yacht Club. He was also a member of the Kiwanis Club, he always tried to lead with a generous heart.
An overall zest for life and adventures , he was an enthusiastic traveler that took him around the world. He shared his love of traveling with his family, and took his kids and grandkids on countless journeys creating memories we will have forever. His greatest passion, sailing! He navigated the seas as far north as Maine, and south through the Bahamian Islands. "Captain" Don, always smiling at the helm of his boats, Mehitabel, Cimba, then Otto L, took his kids, family, including sweet "Josie", the family standard poodle, on many adventures as we sailed the islands of the Caribbean. He had a talent for magic, and his shows sparked smiles and laughter in the young and old. He played both the guitar and ukulele. Had an eye for photography and captured some amazing and beautiful moments and memories behind the lens of his trusty Nikon. Loved to bird watch and read books!
Needless to say he will be sadly missed but his strength, spirit and memories will live within us forever. Survived by his wife, Luz LeBaron, his 2 daughters Debra Aizcorbe (husband Raul), and Lisa Annicharico (husband Trent), 3 grandkids, Heather Tilly (husband Cheyne), Luke and Conner Annicharico, and 2 great grandkids Bowen and Crew Tilly.
Preceded in death, by the mother of his 3 daughters, his first wife, Dodie Hines LeBaron Williams, first born daughter Wendy Renata LeBaron, Helen Loescher Gorham (Mother), Forest LeBaron (Father) and Renata Mahan (Aunt).
Don LeBaron.....Dad....Granddad....and Great Granddad....a kind and honest man with a generous heart, a mentor to many and simply "fun" to be around.
We know you are looking down on us now with love, while "free" to sail the ocean blue. You will forever be our family's "North Star".
"All of us have in our veins the exact same percentage of salt in our blood that exists in the ocean, and, therefore, we have salt in our blood, in our sweat, in our tears. We are tied to the ocean. And when we go back to the sea—whether it is to sail or to watch it, we are going back from whence we came.” JFK
A bench has been placed in his memory at Woodlawn Park Cemetery, surrounded by his other family members.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date, and his wishes will be honored , he will be buried at Sea.
