For Georgina Vargas, the life journey began in Guayanilla, Puerto Rico on August 10, 1940. Georgina was the youngest of three children born to Neftali and Justina Rodriguez. Her siblings were sister Minerva and brother Dulcidio. The family moved to New York City in 1947 and settled in the Bronx. She graduated from Jane Addams Vocational School and soon after married.
During her first marriage, three children were born – Bernard, Richard, and Vivian. She divorced shortly after. In 1966, Georgina married Gerardo Vargas Ramos and Ralph and Rodney Christopher were born from their union. They worked to support their family and enjoyed good fellowship with extended family and friends. While living in New York City, she was a teaching assistant in the Special Education program in the New York City Public School System. Georgina and Gerry made a major life decision in 1978, when they decided to move to Miami, Florida, where they raised Ralph and Rodney Christopher and made a host of lifelong friends within the communities they lived. During those years, she worked as a telemarketer in the optical industry.
Georgina was reared in a dedicated Catholic family and later worshipped at St. Brendan’s Catholic Church in Miami, Florida. She enjoyed reading, writing, all genres of music, baking, and spending time with family and friends. She was very proud of her family as evidenced by pictures, keepsakes, and memories that filled their home. Gina, as she was affectionately known, was the consummate learner. She always wanted to know what, know how, know why, and her age was never an encumbrance. She devoted herself to her family, managed her home and regularly leveraged the latest technology to stay closely connected to her children, grandchildren and friends.
In her triumph over this earthly life, she leaves to cherish her memory and continue her legacy, her husband of 54 years Gerardo Vargas Ramos, her children Bernard and Yvonne Senquis, Richard and Charnette Senquis, Vivian and Curtis Senquis-Langdon, Ralph and Julie Vargas, and Rodney Christopher Vargas and Marie Garcia-Vargas, grandsons Bernard Senquis, Jr., Jamie Senquis, Andrew Vargas, Maximillian Solano, Timothy Thomas, and Richard Brendan Senquis, grand daughters, Giselle Senquis, Stephanie Senquis-Strickland, Coralie Senquis, great grandchildren Lianna Faith, Jaylynn, Leilani, Grant, Isaiah, and Gabriella, nephews Hiram Gomez, Dennis Rodriguez, Eric Rodriguez, Neftali Rodriguez, and a host of grand nieces, grand nephews, and cousins.
Over the past two months before her passing, Gina was lovingly cared for by her children and daughter-in-love Marie Garcia. She passed away on Thursday, January 9, 2020 at Seasons Hospice in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida surrounded by her loving children. She’s now joined her grandson, Joshua Senquis, parents and siblings in heaven as one of our angels. Her amazing capacity to love was felt by everyone she touched in this life. She will live in our hearts forever.
