Jaime Antonio Perez

Jaime A. Perez nació en La Habana, Cuba, el 17 de Mayo de 1928 y se fue a descansar con el Señor el 13 de enero de 2025. Al cumplir sus estudios primarios, ingreso en la Escuela de Derecho de la Universidad de La Habana, graduandose en 1954 como Doctor en Jurisprudencia. Ejerció la profesión de abogado especializado en Comercio y Ley Fiscal, y también trabajo como profesor de Derecho en la Escuela Profesional de Comercio Marianao hasta 1958. Debido a su cargo como asesor legal en el Buró Represivo, fue preso politico en Cuba de enero de 1959 hasta el 3 de marzo de 1961. Una vez liberado de la cárcel, se reunio con su esposa Amelia Perez Inclán (d. 1997), su primer hijo Jaime Javier, y su madre. Salieron de Cuba al exilio en los Estados Unidos. En 1962, la familia se trasladó a Athens, Ohio, donde Jaime obtuvo la Maestría en Literatura Española y Estudios Latinoamericanos en 1966, y la familia creció con el nacimiento de su segundo hijo, Enrique Jose. En 1969, la familia se mudó a la ciudad de Glendale, Arizona, donde Jaime desempeñó el cargo de Coordinador General del Programa de Español, con el rango de Profesor Asociado en el Departamento de Lenguas Modernas de Arizona State University Thunderbird School of Global Management. Durante esa etapa, nació su primera hija, Cristina Lucia. Trabajo en la universidad hasta 1997 y en ese año regreso a la cuidad de Miami después de la muerte de su esposa. En Miami se caso con Graciela Gonzalez (d. 2008) y fue Director Ejecutivode la Spanish American League Against Discrimination (S.A.L.A.D), fue nombrado Comisionado del Civilian Investigative Panel de la ciudad de Miami, fue miembro y decano del Colegio de Abogados de La Habana (En el exilio), ostentando la distinción de Decano Emérito. Jaime fue el co-autor del libro Discutiendo Casos de Negocios, un texto para estudiantes que se especializan en negocios internacionales en Thunderbird School of Global Management; es autor de una biografia titulada Un Cubano Llamado Jaime y de varias obras relacionadas con la causa Cubana como: Cuba: Preludio a la Libertad; Cuba: Hacia un Nuevo Destino; Anhelos y Desengaños: Cuba, Exilio y Esperanza. Jaime orgullosamente se destacó en los Caballeros de Colon, siendo primer Diputado de Estado Cubano en los EEUU; miembro de la Hispanic Association for the Humanities, y la Asociación of Spanish Professionals in America, habiendo participado como ponente en congresos internacionales hispano-americanos en España, en las ciudades de Madrid, Caceres, y Valencia.

A Jaime le sobreviven sus hijos Jaime Javier (Tami), Enrique (María), Cristina (Dean Menegaz) y sus adorados nietos Victoria (Andy), Alena (Daniel), Sky, Sienna, su bisnieta Everly, y sus hijastros Lucy y Mike Gonzalez.

Jaime A Pérez was born in Havana, Cuba, on May 17, 1928, and went to rest with the Lord on January 13, 2025. After completing his primary studies, he entered the School of Law of the University of Havana graduating in 1954 as a Doctor of Jurisprudence. He practiced law specializing in Commercial and Tax Law and worked as a Law professor at the Marianao Professional School of Commerce in Cuba until 1958. Due to being the legal advisor in the Repressive Bureau (El Brac), he was imprisoned as a political prisoner from January 1959 to March 3, 1961. Released from prison, he was reunited with his wife Amelia Pérez Inclán (d. 1997), his first son Jaime Javier and his mother. The family left Cuba to seek exile in the United States. In 1962, he moved to Athens, Ohio, where he obtained a Master's degree in Spanish Literature and Latin American Studies. In Athens, the family grew with the birth of their second son, Enrique José. In 1969, the family moved to Glendale, Arizona, where he worked as the General Coordinator for the Spanish Program, with the rank of Associate Professor in the Department of Modern Languages at Arizona State University Thunderbird School of Global Management. The family grew again in Arizona when their first daughter, Cristina Lucia, was born. He worked at the university until 1997 and in that year, he returned to the city of Miami after the death of his first wife. In Miami he remarried Graciela Gonzalez (d. 2008) and worked as Executive Director of the Spanish American League Against Discrimination (S.A.L.A.D), was appointed Commissioner of the Civilian Investigative Panel of the city of Miami, and was a member and dean of the Havana Bar Association (In Exile), holding the distinction of Dean Emeritus. Jamie was the co-author of Discussing Business Cases, a textbook for students majoring in international business for Thunderbird School of Global Management; he is the author of a biography entitled A Cuban Named Jaime and several works related to the Cuban cause such as: Cuba: Prelude to Freedom; Cuba: Towards a New Destiny; Longings and Disappointments: Cuba, Exile and Hope. Jamie was a proud member of the Knights of Columbus, being the first Cuban State Deputy in the USA; a member of the Hispanic Association for the Humanities, and the Association of Spanish Professionals in America, having participated as a speaker in international Hispanic-American congresses in Spain in the cities of Madrid, Cáceres, and Valencia.

He is survived by his children Jaime Javier (Tami), Enrique (María), Cristina (Dean Menegaz), his beloved grandchildren Victoria (Andy), Alena (Daniel), Sky, Sienna, his great-granddaughter Everly, and stepchildren Lucy and Mike Gonzalez.
