In the 1980's, Manuel was part of my extraordinary management team at Codetel in the Dominican Republic.  He was a brilliant, insightful executive. Serious, thoughtful and imposing in his demeanor and delivery.  This was a wildly creative group of men, each at the beginnings of very successful careers and Manuel was the solid, reserved, experienced veteran, in more ways than one, and he was not a man who could be easily intimidated.  In 1986 we decided to have an awards banquet at which time the 6 executives in this photo (Manuel, 3rd from the left) would surprise a large audience by dancing and lip-syncing Big Girls Don't Cry. We practiced for weeks in advance and it was obvious that this live 'performance' was well outside Manuel's 'comfort zone', something he had never done before. But to his great credit and fearless character, he kept pace with  the 5 other 'slightly crazy men' and the event was an extraordinary success.  We all admired him for his courage in such unusual circumstances and his reputation only grew after that.  Manuel and my paths crossed again a few years later in the Tricom wars, and he was a formidable opponent.     I am deeply saddened by Manuel's passing.  The 4 remaining figures in this photo are old men now, but we know Manuel and Alvaro are together again, watching over all of their Codetel brothers and sisters.  
Rest in peace Manuel, a member forever of El Imperio.
