Pedro was a giant in our field. He was the head of many organizations worldwide and yet always had time to mentor . In the course of our relationship, especially close when he was at Einstein, he told me his life plan which to my amazement  he achieved except for being the   the chair of   a department. He was a delight to be with-a great sense of humor,. astute   and in addition seems to know himself very  well. He seemed to be. a wonderful husband  father and especially  son-in-law and son. I remember his keeping the apartment very warm for his mother and Angela's mother both of whom were used to the warmth of Cuba. He loved Cuba but could return only Infrequently  under special circumstances. He was an important person in my life into major contributor to the field of psychiatry I many levels.

I was saddened to hear of the passing away of Dr. Ruiz, no matter what age he was. Dr. Ruiz lived in Lexington, Kencuky at the time I attended UK with his eldest daughter Marielsa.  The Ruiz Family has been like my own family, and Dr. Ruiz had the most distinguished pleasant features and calming voice when you spoke with him. He had a beautiful laugh, contagious most of the time, and a great sense of humor, which the entire family was always blessed with this same characteristic!!  This made it so much fun for all of us to be around him and his family as we always had a wonderful time.  I remember how much the Ruiz family liked to see photos and get xmas cards with my daughters' pictures. I always took the girls to visit the family when in Lexington. Now, ironically.my parents live on the same street and when I visit them, I look at the Ruiz home and cherish the wonderful memories. One other characteristic I always admired about Dr. Ruiz and his family is that they are strong in weathering any tragedies that came their way. They mourn and grieve, but accept the inevitable wisely.  If I could go back in time, I would revert to my happy days visiting the Ruiz family in Lexington and eating the delicious cuban food they prepared at small gatherings at their home.

I shall miss Dr. Ruiz and I know he is visiting with his son Marino in Heaven who preceded him in Death at a very young age of almost 36.  May God have mercy upon both their souls and give strength to his family at this time.  

I was glad to be able to go to Miami and be with the family on the funeral day.

I agree with all that has been said.  I had the pleasure of working with Dr. Ruiz at Comp Care, too, and he was a delight to work with - unfailingly helpful, pleasant and responsive.  My sympathy to his family -

As a RN, I had the honor of working with Dr. Ruiz at Comp. Care and Good Samaritan Hospital in Lexington, Ky for several years.  He was so respectful of his coworKers, staff and patients.  I agree with Doris, he was the best of the best.

Pedro was loved by everyone who knew him.Those of us who worked with him knew him as the best of the best.
