Rachel passed away peacefully after a long illness on August 18, 2020.
Juana Raquel Hudson Wilcox was born in Santiago, Chile to Juan Miguel Hudson and Florence Ivy Wilcox and was the beloved wife of Fernando R. Diaz.
Devoted mother of Rosita (Rosie) Arrue, John (Johnny) F Diaz, Paul Hudson, Martha Kirby.
Cherished Grandmother of Jaclyn Arrue, Miguel Arrue, Ella Kirby, John Kirby; loving great grandmother of Michael, Jahily, Jaeden.
Before Marriage Rachel was the Executive secretary to the board of Endesa Chile. After Marriage she was the devoted wife of Fernando and dotting mother of Rosita, Juan (John), Armando (Paul), Marta (Martha).
In 1959 the family moved to Queens, New York, New York where she raised four children and worked for GAF Corp. in Manhattan.
In 1968 the family again moved this time to Miami, Florida. Rachel continued to raise four children and then helped raise her grandchildren and work for Cordis Corp. She was active in Recovery Inc. and ran meetings in Miami. She and her children became US. Citizens and the children changed their names.
When Rachel retired from Cordis in 1988 she became a volunteer. Worked with the CAMI organization that latter became NAMI of Miami. She worked first as secretary and then Leader of NAMI in Miami. Was a board member of numerous groups and volunteer to Florida DCF. She was active in politics and her causes.
Rachel was the leader of a NAMI support group that met at Saint Timothy’s Catholic church on Friday till 2012.
Rachel liked to travel and took many bus trips with a group that would go every year to someplace new (Northern Europe, California, Spain, Greece, etc). Visited Chile numerous times and met with her childhood friends and kept in contact with Fernando’s family.
