With profound sadness, we announce the passing of Ramon Alberto Gonzalez, father, grandfather, husband, and brother, who departed this life on August 1, 2026 at his home in Coral Gables, FL at the age of 69 (after a long battle with prostate cancer).
Ramon was born on October 14, 1956 in Matanzas, Cuba, and immigrated to the U.S. just before his fifth birthday in 1961. A graduate of Miami Beach Senior High School, he went on to receive a B.A. from Florida International University, with a double major in Accounting and International Business. He was admitted to Georgetown Law School, where he began his studies, but he returned to Miami to become a CPA. After passing the CPA Exam, he began working as an auditor for the Auditor General of Florida, where he worked for 30 years, half of which he spent as the section supervisor for Miami-Dade, Broward, and Monroe Counties. He traveled frequently to the Keys and around Miami and up through Broward, where he oversaw and published audits for all of southeast Florida’s major state entities.
A long-time resident of Coral Gables, Ramon was a faithful parishioner at Saint Augustine Catholic Church and Student Center, along with his wife Georgia, where their daughter Phoenix sang in the choir every year starting at age 9. He often attended daily mass and volunteered with their food bank. After he retired, he also spent many long hours with his beloved cats at home and later enjoyed many happy days with his two grandchildren.
Ramon will be remembered as a devoted father and grandfather, who was cherished for his sense of humor, his kindness, contemplative nature, playful intelligence, strength, and the love he shared with his family and friends. His warm spirit, generous heart, and lasting impact on those who knew him will forever be cherished. Though he will be deeply missed, his memory will continue to live on in the hearts of all who loved him.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 43 years, Georgia Carol Link; his daughter, Phoenix Gonzalez, her husband Fr. Timothy O’Leary, his grandchildren, Ruth Gonzalez-O’Leary and Rupert Gonzalez-O’Leary, of Miami Beach, FL; his brother, Peter Gonzalez and his wife, Cynthia Dasen, and their daughters Elissa Gonzalez-Dasen and Nicole Gonzalez-Dasen, of Miami, FL; along with many nieces, nephews, extended family members, treasured friends and neighbors. He is predeceased by his parents, Mirella Alonso and Pedro Gonzalez.
Family and friends are invited to attend the visitation on Thursday, August 13, 2026, from 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm at Caballero Rivero Westchester, 8200 Bird Road, Miami, FL 33155.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, August 14, 2026, at 10:00 am at St. Augustine Church & Catholic Student Center at the University of Miami, 1400 Miller Road, Coral Gables, FL 33146.
The Committal Service will immediately follow at 11:30 am at Caballero Rivero Woodlawn North, 3260 SW 8th Street, Miami, FL 33135.
May Ramon rest in eternal peace, and may his memory forever be a source of comfort, love, and inspiration to all who knew him.
