Born on September 23, 1959, in Havana, Cuba, she lived a life defined by generosity, resilience, and an unwavering devotion to the people she cherished.
Sylvia built her world around caring for others. She was known for her love of royalty, culture, her gift for turning any gathering into a celebration, and her remarkable ability to make everyone around her feel seen, valued, and embraced.
Sylvia was the glue that held her family together—supporting her sons and husband with boundless love, and offering a gentle, steady voice through both joyful and difficult times. Family was the center of her life. Becoming a grandmother ignited in her an even deeper strength and determination. She adored her granddaughter, Margot, and delighted in every opportunity to spoil her.
Sylvia is survived by her beloved husband of 38 years, Leonardo Carrillo, her son’s Leo Jr. (Jessica) and Alexander (Maria); her granddaughter Margot Sofia, her brother Jose Luis, her sister (in-law) Lily, her niece, four nephews, and a multitude of lifelong friends.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, March 20, at 1:00 p.m., at St. Catherine of Siena in Miami.
Though she was taken far too soon, her 66 years were filled with purpose, warmth, and a profound impact on all who knew her. She will be deeply missed. Sylvia’s legacy lives on in the kindness she shared, the lessons she imparted, and the love she gave so freely. Her family will forever hold her memory in their hearts.
May she rest peacefully and watch over her loved ones from the kingdom of God.
