She was born September 4, 1925 in Kenton, Tennessee, the daughter of Thomas Carl and Mattie Irene (Todd) Craddock.
Carline graduated from Humbolt High School (Tennessee) in June 1943 and attended University of Tennessee, Martin, Civil Engineering, 1946-48. Carline was the first female civil engineering student at the university. She married James Alton McKibben (b. Feb. 17, 1926 d. Apr. 19, 2005) June 12, 1945 at Iuka Baptist Church, Hattiesburg, Mississippi. This was the first marriage ceremony officiated by childhood friend and later prominent Baptist theologian T.T. Crabtree. Carline was a WWII Veteran's Wife with the Co B 1777 Engr Cons Bn and Bat C 218 FA Bn, 41st Inf Div ("The Jungleers").
Her extensive work history included Top Secret Traffic Clerk, Transportation Department, Wolf Creek Ordnance Plant, U.S. Department of Defense, operated by Proctor and Gamble Defense Corporation, Milan, Tennessee (Carline's boss was Urban Meyer, the grandfather of the current Ohio State University football coach); a bookkeeper for the Bursar, University of Tennessee, Martin; Clerk in the accounting department for the Bursar, University of Tennessee, Knoxville; fulltime mother and cheerleader for three sons; tax preparer; and office manager for Forest Valley Builders (Ray Rotellini & Tom Painter), Miamisburg, Ohio.
Carline co-founded, with her husband James, the first Cub Scout pack at Mark Twain School, Miamisburg, Ohio ca. 1958; Jim was the cub master and Carline was a den mother. She was a member of Miamisburg Band Boosters ca. 1965-75, and a parent for the All Ohio Boy's Band (Michael, James) and the The Ohio State University Marching Band (Michael).
She supported one of her young sons through successful groundbreaking experimental heart surgery at Cincinnati Children's Hospital ca. 1959. Carline has proudly supported her sons in their endeavors and achievements that have circled the globe. Her oldest grandchild, Carrie Dennetta (McKibben) Fletemeyer, was blessed by Pope John Paul II in 1980 when she was just four months old. Carline has now joined husband James and St. Pope John Paul in The Great Cloud of Witnesses. Please keep praying for us!
Carline and husband Jim moved to Miamisburg when he was promoted to the corporate headquarters of Maxon Construction Company in Kettering. Jim’s projects ranged from high rise buildings, highways, bridges, power plants, and manufacturing facilities to sports arenas, convention centers and office buildings. Carline and the boys sometimes put on their boots and visited these construction sites to see what dad did all day. Some of James’ exemplary feats of engineering are the award-winning Greater Columbus Convention Center, Capitol South (Columbus), the Super Computer Center (Columbus), Millett Hall (Miami University, Oxford) and the Southwest Portland Cement Facility (Fairborn). In Illinois, James oversaw the construction of the Associated Electric Co-op coal conveyor system built along the Kaskaskia River. He also later worked for Southern Ohio Steel Fabricators (SOFCO) in Cincinnati. He managed major projects that included the Citizens Federal Building (Dayton), Prudential Tower (Cincinnati), and the Top Gun and Vortex steel coasters at Kings Island.
Carline enjoyed woodworking, stained glass, Bible study, and church volunteering at Ridgeville Community Church where she taught Sunday school and visited the elderly. Carline considered everyone in her Church family as her extended family. She loved meeting people. Even as her dementia worsened in the last decade of her life, her great sense of humor remained. As she grew less mobile, the fellowship and love of friends and neighbors sustained her and gave her great comfort. Thank you all and may God Bless You!
She is survived by her three sons. Son Michael Thomas McKibben is married to Nancy Jean (Hoovler) McKibben (Columbus OH). Their six children are: Carrie Dennetta (McKibben) Fletemeyer, married to Kevin Russell Fletemeyer (Columbus OH) with two children, Finn Michael and Clara Rose; Maxim James McKibben, married to Elisabeth Kreter McKibben (Raleigh NC) three children, Cordelia Ruth, Daphne Grace, and James Reeve; Susanna Christine McKibben, married to Arnoldo Palazuelos Rojo (Merida, Yucatan, Mexico); Holly Patricia (McKibben) Fekete, married to Karl Amadeus Fekete (Columbus OH); Kathryn Rose (McKibben) Loftus, married to Brian Joseph Loftus (Columbus OH); and Justin Patrick McKibben (Columbus OH).
