Lawrence "Larry" Henry Schmitz

Lawrence Henry Schmitz, age 70, of Miamisburg, OH was surrounded by family when he went to be with the Lord on Friday, September 20, 2024. He was born on December 30, 1953 in Dayton, OH to the late Francis Henry and M. Florine Schmitz.

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Patricia “Patti” Dalton.

Larry is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Kathy Schmitz; daughter, Sarah Schmitz & Corey Roberts; son, Henry Lewis Schmitz II & wife Ashley; grandchildren, Atlas & Penelope Schmitz; siblings, Steve Schmitz & wife Becky, Roberta “Bobbi” Donaldson & husband Grant, Jane Schmitz & Joan Wagner, and Jean Treon & husband Todd; brother-in-law, Rick Dalton & wife Lori; his right-hand-man, Aaron Crutcher; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, friends and loved ones.

At a very young age, Larry entered into the family trade of plumbing. He worked with his dad and Uncle Jerry at Schmitz Plumbing Company and continued plumbing throughout his life, and eventually took over the family business when Francis retired in 1995. During the course of his plumbing career, Larry volunteered at the Miami Township Fire Station. This ignited a passion in him, and he became a firefighter and paramedic with the Miamisburg Fire Station in 1978. He loved being a firefighter and proudly served for 28 years, not just for his local station, but also as part of the Miami Valley Urban Search and Rescue Team, and FEMA Task Force One. After a commendable career, he retired in 2006.

Larry was a lifetime member of Our Lady of Good Hope Church, and a longtime member of the Knights of Columbus. He was a man of faith, and was Godfather to Jeanette, Sean, Aimee and Hannah. Larry was a sports enthusiast. He played baseball, football & basketball at Miamisburg High School. He also really enjoyed playing golf and cards, going to UD games, concerts and events.

Larry was the most dependable, rock solid person you ever met. He was one of the hardest workers, and a man of integrity and loyalty. He made an impact on everyone, and set a standard of what a good man should be.

A visitation will be held from 5:00 – 8:00 PM on Monday, September 30, 2024 at GEBHART-SCHMIDT-PARRAMORE Funeral Home, 508 E. Linden Ave. Miamisburg, OH 45342. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 AM Tuesday, October 1st at Our Lady of Good Hope Church, 6 S. 3rd St. Miamisburg, OH 45342. Burial will follow at Our Lady of Good Hope Cemetery, Miamisburg, OH.
