

Mary Elizabeth Goodwin (nee: Fields), 98, of Miamisburg, died Saturday, September 17th at Kingston of Miamisburg. Born on July 31, 1918, in Union County, Indiana, to Maynard Thomas and Edith (nee: Conaway) Fields, she was a 1936 graduate of College Corner High School. Mary was a member of St. James United Methodist Church in Miamisburg since 1950 and a member of the Kappa Delta Phi Sorority since 1948. She was one of the founding members of the Miamisburg Spring Fling, the 1997 recipient of the J.C. Penney Golden Rule Award, and the 2000 Miamisburg Citizen of the Year. Her many activities over the years, included The Miamisburg Beautification Committee, Baum Opera House board member, serving on many boards at St. James UMC and a member of American Legion Auxiliary. Mary was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Thomas Meredith Fields; sister, Letha Lee Riley; great-grandson, Nicholas Gene Johnson; two nephews, Richard Riley and Thomas Riley and one niece, Sherrie Hamilton. She is survived by her husband of 79 years, Dean M. Goodwin of Miamisburg; daughters, Wanda F. Huelsman of Wilmington, NC, and Bonnie G. Van Zandt of Lebanon; son, Larry D. Goodwin (Connie) of Harrogate, TN; sister, Norma Paddock of Liberty, IN; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Mary’s wishes were to participate in the anatomical donation program through The Boonshoft School of Medicine at Wright State University. All services will be held Thursday, September 22, at St. James United Methodist Church. Visitation with the family will from 10:00-11:00 AM with a memorial service celebrating Mary’s life at 11:00 AM, the Rev R. Stuart Rammes officiating. Luncheon will follow. The family would like to thank the staff of Kingston of Miamisburg for their care and compassion during Mary’s 6-month residence there.
