Ann was a treasured mother and Oma. Her wisdom and faith were a living example to her family. Beloved wife of 31 years to Paul (deceased), mother to Renate Swider (Tom), Kathy Imbrigiotta (Dave), Mark (deceased) and David Trautwein (Kandice).
Ann was born and raised in Cleveland to parents Ludwig and Anna Matthes, German immigrants who owned a bakery and later “Jackson’s” restaurant on North Rocky River Dr. She was a graduate of Berea High School ’52. A close knit group, her classmates still meet annually to reminisce. Her brothers Chuck and Wally and their families were close and shared many trips together to Cook Forest, PA.
She met her husband Paul, also from Germany, at the German Central Club in Parma. They were married in 1956 and were both active in their church, St. Thomas Evangelical Church on Lake Avenue in Cleveland, a German speaking congregation. Church members who were also long-time friends were of great support through the passing of their son, Mark and shortly later Paul too. Ann had many fond memories of weekends spent in Ashtabula with women in the church and other church activities.
Her grandchildren were a great joy to her. A nature lover, Ann often took her grandchildren Louis Feijoo (Gina) & Sonia Gnall (Phil) and Sarah & Adam Imbrigiotta to explore and walk in the parks. She also loved to attend their school and sport events. The arrival of her great-grandchildren Louis, Anthony, Sarah, Selena and Alexander were wonderful additions to her loving and blessed family.
Ann was a long-time volunteer at Rocky River Nature Center (13 years) and went on many organized trips with Cleveland Metroparks (Florida and Costa Rica). Time with her closest friends was often spent walking in the parks and attending outdoor events around town in Cleveland.
She died peacefully at Mount Alverna in Parma where she resided since February. The family is especially grateful for the care, comfort and spiritual support the staff at Mount Alverna gave Ann during her time there.
