Perhaps your memories of my Gram center around ritualistic work, a puzzle or game, a home cooked meal, a pond skipping rocks, in her home, by the pool, at the bowling alley or apple orchard. Wherever they originate one thing is true your memories probably bring a smile to your face as you reflect back. 

I just want highlight a few of my favorites… 

I remember when she broke her ankle and my Pops was left with the task of cleaning the house. Anyone who knows my Gram, knows how meticulously clean her home was (with the exception of the office, which I think she may have imagined was a nonexistent annex to keep her sanity). After a few injuries and several “Oh Richard’s” she did pass the torch to a close family friend to maintain the level of cleanliness. 

After college, I moved away, but every time I was able to venture home she always made time, a home cooked meal and usually arranged a family gathering full of games, puzzles and laughter. 

She loved her family, baking cookies and pies. I’ll never forget the smell of her clothes, her soft touch and loving tone. To say she had a green thumb was an understatement. Her perfectly pruned roses and blooming violets are the proof. 

She tried very hard in recent years to grow with the times and technology. Her computer was always right there on the table. She loved to look at pictures on Facebook and especially sharing them with others. Although she wasn’t “tech savvy” she sure tried.

I’ll never be able to put into words what my Gram meant to me so I’ll close with a quote from Winne the Pooh, “How lucky I am to have something that makes saying goodbye so hard”.



We extend to you our most sincere sympathy.  We were so saddened to hear of Elly's death.  She was a lovely person and we considered her a good friend.  May you all take comfort in the way she passed- without lingering illness.  She will be missed by many of us.
