She is survived by her husband of sixty-four years, David W. Young; her four children - Brenda Young, Kathy Larison, Anita (Ivan) Foster, and Eric (Luis) Young; her eight grandchildren - David (Adair) Helsinger, Hilary Helsinger, Megan (Tony) Stercula, Alex (Jordan) Larison, Christian (Leidy) McLaughlin, Ryan McLaughlin, Sean Connors, and Brooke Connors; and her five great-grandchildren - Vincent Stercula, Landon Larison, Victoria Dee Stercula, Colt Larison, and Leyla McLaughlin.
She was 85 years old. She was preceded in death by her parents, Stanley and Eleanor (née Edgerton) Goodman.
Dee was born and raised in Middletown, OH and graduated from Lemon-Monroe High School in 1958. During her high school years, she was an active member of the Middletown Assembly #68 International Order of the Rainbow for Girls and served in the Station of the Worthy Advisor. She was also a sponsor in the marching band. After her marriage to David, Dee worked part-time at Miami University Middletown in the Bursar’s Office; but, the majority of her time was devoted to raising her children whom she loved without reservation.
As her children grew, Dee decided to pursue further education and graduated from Miami University with a M.A. in Communication. Upon graduation she taught at Miami University in the Communication Department on both the Middletown and Oxford campuses. Dee also taught for Wilmington College’s Prison Education Program at both Lebanon Correctional Institution and Warren Correctional Institution. She enjoyed her years of teaching.
In addition Dee committed much time to her church – First United Methodist Church in Middletown, OH – where she taught Sunday School, participated in her United Women in Faith Unit circle group, sang at the Praise and Worship service, and read scripture to the congregation on many occasions. Dee also loved exercising with David at the Middletown Area Family YMCA, and she served for a time on its Board of Directors.
Despite her many extracurricular activities, Dee was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was as fiercely dedicated to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren as she was to her four children. Dee also enjoyed traveling with her husband; loving her dear dog, Baboo; reading; playing spider solitaire; and assembling jigsaw puzzles. Whatever the activity she always welcomed company and laughter. She will be forever loved and missed.
Dee supported many charities; and, if you would like to honor her memory, please send a donation to Hope House Mission or Habitat for Humanity.
