

Dorris Thomas Stillwagon Raman passed away Thursday, March 11, 2010 in Houston, Texas. She resided in Midland, Texas for 56 years. Dorris was born October 5, 1920, in Elm City, North Carolina to Mr. and Mrs. Sanford Thomas. She attended Duke University and pursued a nursing degree, and was a registered nurse during World War II. She married George Stillwagon in 1945 and lived in Houston, Texas prior to moving to Midland. Dorris worked at Midland Memorial Hospital as a registered nurse and was involved with the Woman’s Auxiliary. George and Dorris Stillwagon were one of the founding families that originated Saint Nicholas Episcopal Church in 1956 and were lifelong members. One of her many achievements was, assisting in building the Cerebral Palsy Center of Midland. Dorris had a reputation for hosting charity and social events including dinner parties and her Bridge Club. Dorris was married to George Stillwagon in 1945 and he passed away in 1980. She married Dr. George Freetag in 1983 and he passed away in 1984. She married Norman Raman in 1991 and he passed away in 2009. She was preceded in death by her sisters Lucille Bryan and Lois Barnes. She is survived by her sisters Ulma “Doodle” Page; Pauline Proctor; and Rebecca York all of North Carolina; as well as two nieces and one nephew. Dorris has one son, Douglas Coleman Stillwagon of Houston, Texas; two granddaughters, Shawn Ann Stillwagon of Fort Worth, Texas; and Lori Sheree Watson of Denton, Texas; and one great-granddaughter Madelyn Leigh Watson of Denton, Texas. The family will receive friends at Ellis Funeral Home, Monday, March 15, 2010 between the hours of 5:00 P.M. and 7:00 P.M. Funeral services have been scheduled for 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, March 16, 2010 at Saint Nicholas Episcopal Church. Interment will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park. Arrangements are under the direction of Ellis Funeral Home.
