

Douthea Shaner was born on May 20, 1934 in Norfolk, Virginia to Mattie Moore and Captain Douthey Gear McMillan. She spent her early life there and lived in San Diego, California, Charleston, South Carolina, and Paris, Texas.
Douthea graduated from Paris High School at the age of 16. Upon graduation from Texas Christian University in 1954 with a degree in physics, she moved to Midland to become a geophysical assistant and, later, a programmer, with Shell Oil Company. She subsequently programmed for Global Exploration and Elcor Chemical Company then became a Certified Employment Counselor at Snelling and Snelling. At the time of her retirement, Douthea was Vice President of Technical Services with Williams Petroleum Consultants, Inc.
In 1955, she met a young geologist William T. Shaner who she knew immediately would be her husband. They were married on July 21, 1956 at Saint Christopher Episcopal Church in Hobbs, New Mexico. They remained married until his death on June 28, 1999. They had lifelong activity in the Republican Party, the Midland Community Theater, and their beloved Trinity Episcopal Church!
They were preceded in death by their daughter, Madeira Lynn Shaner, in July 1982.
She is survived by son, Russell Lawrence Shaner, his wife Michelle Nail Shaner and their children Benjamin Russell Shaner and Elizabeth Lee Shaner; cousins Frank McMillan and wife Terrell, Bob Renneker and wife Ann, Jim Renneker and wife Olivia, Kenny Quesenberry, and Kevin Quesenberry; in-laws Lee Shaner and wife Suella, and Loree Fitzgerald; nieces and nephews fondly remembered Alane Shaner Nebbia and husband Mark, Pete Shaner, Stephanie Shaner Sloser and husband Joshua, Peter Lee Shaner and wife Diana, Melia Fitzgerald Gordon and husband Tarl and by many more nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be at Mansfield Bible Church at 11 am on April 8, 2017 at 2351 Country Club Dr, Mansfield, Texas 76063. Internment is at Columbarium Midland's Trinity Episcopal Church.
