Buck was born on March 12, 1925 in Fort Worth, Texas to E.I. and Ida Watkins. He was educated and raised there were he graduated from Polytechnic High School. During World War II, he served in the U.S. Navy, and was discharged in December of 1945. He married Joyce Stamp on June 12, 1943. While working for Wyatt C. Hedrick Architect and Engineers in Fort Worth he visited Midland and entered into the oil business on September of 1947. He worked for Seaboard Oil Company before it merged with Texaco. He was employed by Seaboard and Texaco for thirty-nine years and retired as Land Manager.
Buck was a charter member of the American Association of Professional Landmen Assoc. (AAPL) a life member of Julian Field Lodge 908 in Fort Worth, Texas, Fellowship class of First United Methodist Church, Santa Rita Club and honorary life member of the Petroleum Museum. Buck was an avid golfer and hunter and was a member of the National Rifle Association for many years. He loved spending time with his golfing and hunting buddies.
Buck was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers; and two sisters.
Buck is survived by two daughters, Judy Jean Spruell and husband John “Jake” of Midland, Texas, Jill Ann Faulder and husband George “Bud” of Fort Worth, Texas; grandchildren, Jennifer Neill Young and husband Erik of Houston, Texas, Ben Deweese and wife Leigh of Dallas, Texas, and Blair Deweese and fiancé Trey Erwin of Houston, Texas; three great granddaughters, Gracelyn, Maddison, and Raegan, triplets; as well as many nieces and nephews.
A visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Monday, November 24, 2014 at Ellis Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 25, 2014 at First United Methodist Church, with Reverend Macky Pitts officiating. A private, family only, burial will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park.
