Jesse Scott Price Gilmour passed away at her home Wednesday, September 8, 2010. She was born March 23, 1914 in Ballinger, Texas to Charles Thomas Price and Jesse Scott. Because her mother died shortly after her birth, she was raised by a great aunt in Georgetown, Texas. After her father remarried in 1925, she went to live with them in Paris, Texas graduating from high school and attending Paris Junior College. She returned to Georgetown and attended Southwestern University receiving two Bachelor’s degrees, one in music and one in English, in 1936. While attending Southwestern, she pledged Alpha Delta Pi and remained a lifelong member. After graduation, she moved to Midland, Texas and began teaching at Midland High School. It was in Midland that she met her husband of 62 years, Hugh B. Gilmour, who preceded her in death in 2004. Jesse was active in many community activities, but she will be remembered by her devotion to her church and her family. Shortly after moving to Midland, she played the piano at First Presbyterian Church and was active throughout her life with many activities at the church. Most people in Midland, especially in her church, were recipients of her delicious homemade sourdough bread and cookies. She was a devoted wife and loved being a mother and especially a grandmother to her thirteen grandchildren and nineteen great-grandchildren. Jesse is survived by her children, Hugh “Chip” Gilmour and wife Dale of Lubbock; Scott Gilmour and wife Nancee of Canyon; Judy Windecker and husband Bob of Palm Beach Gardens, Florida; Bruce Gilmour and wife Terry of Midland; and Dr. Douglas Gilmour of San Antonio. She is also survived by a sister, Martha Robinson and husband Lee of Paris, Texas. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 A.M. , on Saturday, September 11, at First Presbyterian Church with Dr. Steve Schorr officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Ellis Funeral Home. Condolences may be offered at www.ellisfunerals.com. The family would especially like to thank her wonderful caregivers; Virginia, Blanca, Sylvia, Precious, Debbie and Amy and also Dr. Gregory Bartha and Edith and Amy of Hospice of Midland.
