After Bill got out of the Navy at the end of World War II, he settled in California and finally returned to Texas, settling in Midland in 1962. He managed the body shop for Elder Chevrolet for several years and then moved over to Rogers Ford, where he retired after 20 years.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Jo Dickey, in 2001, his son Charlie in 2002, and his parents, Cal and Mabel.
He is survived by his daughter, Sherry Luna and husband Gary of Gardendale, son Robert Dickey of Boerne, sister Betty Sharp of Amarillo, 9 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, and 2 great-great granddaughters.
Pallbearers will be grandsons Carl Long, Scott Long, Billy Floyd, Danny Kearney and great grandsons Ryan Long and Ethan Hammond.
