I was so blessed to have known John for over 30 years. He was always kind and respectful to me. What a beautiful soul he was.

We will always remember John as who we called "the Steve McQueen" of the river. Super cool guy, friend, and always ready to help us newbies in life out in the wilds of the Devil's River. I recently ran across notes my grandmother used to deliver back and forth between us while you were at Midland Freshman, so you've been on my mind, and now you're in my prayers. Every time I saw Mr. Schlagal he was nice, kind and treated me with respect, very good man.

You all are in our thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.  My dad, Eugene Coleman, thought the world of John and we all did too.  Loved to hear his stories. He will be missed but I am sure he and my dad are up in heaven together...doing what they used to do...cause trouble.  ;)  Love to you all.
