She had lived there the past five years close to family members. Kathleen was born on May 5, 1922, in Tyler, Texas, to Homer and Avalena Sick. She graduated from Tyler High School, where she loved being a majorette. Kathleen pursued additional schooling, but attended only a short time in order to marry her dashing Texas Aggie, W. John (Bill) Owen in 1942. They were married for 55 years. Bill shortly left A&M to serve as an officer in World War II. While stationed at Fort Bliss in El Paso, Texas, their oldest daughter, Barbara Sue was born. Following the end of World War II, the family returned to A&M in order for Bill to receive his degree in Petroleum Engineering. The following years were spent in both Texas and Louisiana before the family finally settled in Odessa, Texas, for sixteen years. Soon after, Judy Anne, daughter #2, was born on Thanksgiving Day. Both daughters grew up in Odessa, and Kathleen had great fun participating in the process. She was even known (with the other moms to join in the fun upon occasion. After a short time living in Wichita Falls, the family moved to Midland, Texas, where Kathleen continued to live until her move to Roswell, New Mexico. She and Bill, until his death in 1997, enjoyed boating and fishing on the weekends. Kathleen was especially proud of a picture of a 70 lb Northern Pike and herself in Prince Albert National Park (Canada), where she caught it. She loved to decorate, but especially loved going to garage sales, at which Bill would shake his head at the many treasures she brought home! Kathleen dearly loved her five grandchildren and made sure she stayed in touch with them, although they all lived a long distance away.
Those preceding Kathleen in death were her parents; husband, W. John (Bill) Owen; sister, Juanita Sick Mehaffey; two half-brothers: Williford Sick, James Sykes; and oldest grandson, Kevin Michael Thomson.
