Matt was born March 30, 1978 in Kermit, Texas to Mike and Susie Hyman, of Odessa, Texas. He graduated from Permian High School in 1996. Matt was nominated for appointment to the United States Naval Academy by U. S. Congressman Henry Bonilla. He attended the University of Texas at Austin from 1996-1998. He transferred to Angelo State University in 1998 graduating in 2000 with a Bachelors of Science degree in Kinesiology. Four days after graduating he married the love of his life, Leslie Reed, in Runaway Bay, Jamaica. He held a brief career in exercise physiology and cardiac rehab before embarking on the journey everyone always believed was his calling – Law School. Matt then attended the Texas Wesleyan School of Law in Fort Worth graduating on the Dean’s List in 2006 with a Juris Doctorate. He and Leslie moved back to West Texas in 2006 and Matt began his career as a Petroleum Landman with Choate Company. After passing the Bar Exam on the first try, Matt was sworn into the State Bar of Texas in the fall of 2006. He continued his career in 2008 joining Prime Operating. While at Prime, Matt was blessed with his greatest joys; the birth of his precious daughter, Marlie, in November 2008 and his “little man” Holt Matthew in December 2010. In April of 2011, he found his home with Cotton Bledsoe Tighe and Dawson as an Attorney in the Oil and Gas section. He was a long time member of First Baptist Church of Odessa. Matt and his family found a new church home at Crestview Baptist Church of Midland in November 2011.
Matt was an exceptional person who had the ability to do anything he set his mind to. He loved to play golf, ride his motorcycle, practice law, and attend football games with his dad. Most of all, he loved his family. His wife, Leslie, and his children were his pride and joy. He was a great son and grandson, a loving husband and father, and the best brother and friend anyone could ever wish for. He will be greatly missed but never forgotten by those who knew and loved him.
The family would like to give a special thanks to everyone at Cotton Bledsoe Tighe and Dawson. He was with you for a short time, but you were family and you made his dream come true. Also, a special thank you to Crestview Baptist Church of Midland and First Baptist Church of Odessa for all of your prayers and support.
