
Nelda Bruce was carried on angel wings to be with her Lord and Savior on Monday, October 21, 2013.
She was born on February 9, 1939, in Colorado City, Texas, to Ewel Leslie Smith and Maggie Sue Feaster Smith. Nelda graduated high school in Colorado City and went on to attain her beautician license. She worked for a short period of time as a beautician until her marriage to Ronald Bruce on January 19, 1962. They were blessed with 46 years of marriage.
Nelda and Ronald resided in Loraine, Texas, for many years where Nelda was a homemaker and mother to their two boys. She was active in her local church, her boys’ school and sports activities which included FFA and stock shows, as well as supporting Ronald in his various memberships and service on boards in their community. Nelda was a wonderful cook and enjoyed having family and friends at her home for Sunday lunch or dinner throughout the week or weekend. She loved her family and was happiest spending time with them in person or on the telephone.
After Ronald’s retirement from First State Bank in Loraine, he and Nelda moved to Fort Stockton, Texas, where he was employed as a Correctional Officer with TDCJ and Nelda was employed in the mail room. Upon their retirement from TDCJ, they moved to Midland, Texas, to be near their children and grandchildren. After Ronald’s passing in 2008, Nelda moved to Polo Park Retirement Center in Midland and enjoyed participating in many of the activities and organized a group to play Forty-Two.
Nelda was preceded in death by her husband, Ronald; her parents; four brothers – Travis Wayne, Charles, Melvin, and Richard Smith; one sister – Lala Cook; and brother-in-law Ralston Bruce. Nelda left behind sons - Greg Bruce and Leslie Bruce and wife Diane of Midland, Texas; grandchildren - Ryan and fiancé Rebecca of Greenville, Texas, Dillon and wife Hannah of Midland, Texas, and Meagan and fiancé Austin of Midland, Texas (along with Meagan’s mother, Lynnette Bruce); brothers - Arvil and wife Bernice and Donald and wife Peggy; sister – Fern Thompson and husband Leo; sisters-in-law,Phyllis Smith, Gail Smith; brothers-in-law Marshall Cook and wife Helen and Byron Bruce and wife Molly; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and special friends.
Visitation will be from 6-8pm Friday, October 25, 2013 at Kiker-Seale Funeral Home in Colorado City, TX.
Memorial service will be 2pm Saturday, October 26, 2013 at Kiker-Seale Funeral Home in Colorado City, TX.
