

He was born April 4, 1927 in Gorman, Texas to John Henry and Ruby Mable (Oney) Cooper. He graduated high school in Moody, Texas and then joined the United States Army where he served on General MacArthur's staff in Japan. He attended and graduated from Abilene Christian University after his service in the Army. He married Neva J. Spinks in 1951 in Kermit, Texas. He worked for Southwestern Bell in upper management from 1950-1986.
Paul served as an Elder at North A Church of Christ as well as University Church of Christ in Abilene. He went to India 15 times as a missionary, served as a board member for Midland Christian School and Greenwood ISD. He volunteered for Red Cross, Meals on Wheels, and Hospice. He liked woodworking, needle point, and crochet.
Paul is survived by his wife, Neva Cooper of Midland; daughters, Glenda Cooper of Irving, Paula Bayley of Midland, and Bonnie Cooper of Republic of Panama; son, Thomas Cooper of Midland; grandchildren, Kim Assaad and husband Mark, Andy Bayley and wife Lisa, Paul David Cooper, Chad Bayley and wife Stacey, Bryan Bayley and wife Katie, Courtney Cooper, Crystal Cooper, Jonathan Cooper, Justin Cooper and wife Hollie, and Christopher Cooper; 8 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents; 2 sisters and 2 brothers; son, David Cooper; and son-in-law, Eric Bayley.
Memorials may be made to Midland Christian School and Hospice of Midland.
The family will receive friends at the Cooper home on Sunday, January 27, 2019 from noon to 6 p.m. A graveside is scheduled for 9 a.m. Monday, January 28, 2019 at Resthaven Memorial Park. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, January 28, 2019 at North A Church of Christ.
