Robert was born to JB and Marsha McNeil in San Diego, California. Through his father’s profession, he lived in many places throughout his childhood including Brega, Libya; Kingsville, Texas; Westlake Village, California; and finally Midland, Texas where he graduated from Midland Lee High School in 1990.
Much to his mother’s frustration, Robert had a penchant for taking apart small appliances to see how they worked. Fortunately for him, he went on to study mechanical engineering at Texas Tech University, graduating in 1994. He also obtained a Masters in Biomedical Engineering as well as his MBA at Northwestern University concurrently in 2001.
Robert enjoyed a career in the biomedical industry working for companies Ethicon, Johnson and Johnson, Boston Scientific, Soren, American Medical Systems, Cardiovascular Systems Inc., and most recently Medtronic.
Robert enjoyed spending time with family & friends. His family enjoyed boating, camping, traveling, concerts & race tracks. He also loved to play with his pets; his dogs Chloe and Maggie and his kitty Binx. So many memories have been made. His pride & joy were his kids, everything he did was for them.
Robert will be remembered for his love of cars. He recently purchased his dream car, a Nissan GTR which he enjoyed racing at Penwell Raceway & going on rallies with the TXSR family. Robert’s loved ones will miss getting weekly texts of the cars he thought were cool or that they should buy just so he could drive them.
Robert was preceded in death by his mother, Marsha (Jensen) McNeil, grandparents Dallas and Evelyn (Bahn) McNeil, Raymond Jensen and Maxine O’Connell Zine.
Surviving to tell countless Robert stories are wife Vanessa McNeil and children Caleb Hanson, Madelaine McNeil, McKenna McNeil, & Cally Hanson of Midland TX, father JB McNeil and stepmother Vickie McNeil of Montgomery TX, brother Jamin McNeil (Ann Kristen) of Houston TX, sister Merritt Rundell (Mark) of Cypress TX, stepsister Amie Gremillion (Lane) of Brenham TX and stepbrothers Tony Barreras (Mimi) of Tomball TX and Aaron Heidelmeier (Ellen) of Arlington TX, former wife Natalie Rayburn (Brandon) of Midland TX. Robert leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews and cousins who will no doubt hear of Robert’s escapades for years to come.
A Celebration of Life for Robert McNeil is scheduled for July 16, 2022 from 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm, at The Basement at Opal’s Table, 223 West Wall Street, Suite 150
Midland, TX, 79701.
