Robert was born on April 1, 1946 in Bowie, Texas to Robert “Bob” Charles Walker and Annie Marie Hoeldtke Walker.
Being the first grandchild, he was spoiled rotten by his aunts and uncle. He had many fond memories of his time spent at his grandparents farm, where he would help his grandfather unhook the horses from the plows and later learned to drive the tractor.
His father worked as a doodlebugger for Conoco, later becoming a draftsman. This led them to living in many towns such as Houston, Ballinger, Bowie, Wichita Falls, Texas; Alva, Clinton, Oklahoma; Hobbs, Albuquerque, New Mexico; finally landing in Midland in 1960.
He started school at Austin Junior High School (Lee Freshman) as a freshman. Lettering in basketball. He then spent 3 years at Lee High School graduating in 1964.
It was while at Lee that Coach Stuckler gave him the nickname “Spider”, due to his long arms and legs (6’7”).
Then it was off to Texas Tech, where he majored in Accounting. While skipping classes he worked for the Goodhart candy company and 7-11 stores.
He saved his money and bought his first car, in March of 1964, a beautiful Springtime Yellow 1964 Mustang. He was a true Ford man and owned several mustangs over the years. On one of his many trips back to Midland he met the love of his life, Sandra Kay Beeman. The couple married October 14, 1967, at Grace Lutheran Church in Midland. The couple moved to Lubbock so he could continue to skip his classes. As it would happen the couple was blessed on August 30, 1968 with a beautiful baby girl, Raquelle Lynn. The couple moved back to Midland in 1970. Then on a very cold, snowy day on January 4, 1972, they were blessed with a beautiful baby boy, Robert Charles “Bubba” the III.
Robert then served five years in the National Guard. He did his basic training at Fort Campbell, Kentucky, then, he was off to NIT at Fort Sill, Oklahoma. He received a Marksman medal and the rank of Sp4.
Upon returning from basic training he worked for many companies as an Accountant. These included the Midland Reporter Telegram, Starr Gas, Mike Lewis and Associates, and Petro Services. He enjoyed the many years working with his brother, David Walker CPA, A.N and Madeline Norwood.
He was a faithful Dallas Cowboy fan who enjoyed spending time with his bride and his rescue dogs. He loved to talk politics and was a true republican who thought highly of Ronald Reagan, Rush Limbaugh, and Donald Trump.
He was preceded in death by his father and mother; his brother David F. Walker; sister Anne Cihonski and her husband Rick; and nephew David F. “Dave” Walker Jr.
He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years; daughter Raquelle Trimble and her husband Jerry; son Robert C. Walker III and his fiancé Jenny Bouldin; grandchildren Brian Walker and his wife Rushell, Chance Trimble and his wife Kelli, and Chasidee Trimble; great-grandchildren Wes and Whitley Walker, and Odette Trimble; sister in law Wanda Walker; nephew Matthew and wife Kim and Jon Walker; and his niece Rachel Roberson.
Special thanks to Hospice of Midland, nurses Kayla, Lisa, and aide Bethany.
There are no services, upon his request he was cremated. He always said if you couldn’t make time to see me when I was alive, he didn’t want you gawking at him when he was dead.
In Lieu of flowers make donations to Hospice of Midland 911 West Ave. Midland, Texas 79701.
