

Lou Ruth Boyd was born in Denton County on October 8, 1921 and died on January 6, 2013, where she was a resident at Manor Park in Midland, Texas. Ruth’s family were the founding members of the First Baptist Church in Flomot, Texas in Motley County, and she was a devout Christian her entire life. Ruth graduated from Flomot High School, and attended West Texas State College in Canyon, Texas for two years. During WWII, she served as a volunteer at the air base in Childress, Texas. While living in Crane, Texas, she was a member of numerous civic organizations, was involved in community and school activities as a volunteer and was a member of Eastern Star. After moving to Midland, she was office manager for Buddy’s Flowers for several years, bookkeeper for Cotton, Bledsoe, Tighe and Dawson PC until retirement, and later, a part-time receptionist for Dr. Thurston Dean’s Orthopedic Clinic. She married Joe Boyd in 1975 and they had 25 wonderful years together.
Ruth is preceded in death by her parents, Al and Molly Clements, and brother Scotty Clements of Childress, Texas, daughter, Mary Ruth Thomas Bass of Midland, Texas, husband Joe Woody Boyd of Midland, Texas, and step-son, Joe Allen Boyd of Andrews, Texas.
She is survived by her son, Dr. Stephen Thomas and wife Vicki of Midland, Texas, granddaughter, Lindsay Sloan Sims of Austin, Texas, step-son Bruce Boyd and wife Kathy of Phoenix, Arizona, and several grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held at Resthaven Memorial Park on Friday, January 11, 2013 at 1:00pm with Robert Kirk officiating. The family wishes to thank Dr. Robert Vogel, the staff at Manor Park, and Hospice of Midland for their nurture and care for Ruth while she was a resident at the Mabee Center. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials are given to the Mary Ruth Thomas Endowed Scholarship at Midland College, Midland, Texas.
