

Sally Temple Whiteley was born on October 5, 1925 in Los Angeles, CA to Mohler and Lula Temple. Her family moved to Lubbock, TX when she was 12 years old. She graduated from Lubbock High School and attended Texas Tech and Southern Methodist universities. Afterwards, she moved to Midland, TX and worked as a secretary. She married H. Wade Whiteley on October 13, 1950 and became a homemaker raising three sons. She also worked as a community volunteer giving her time and energy to many organizations. She and her husband were instrumental in the creation of the Midland Association of Retarded Citizens. She volunteered at St. Andrew's Presbyterian Mission, Midland Public Library, Petroleum Museum, and the Midland Community Theater. Sally was an active member of First Presbyterian Church and served as a Deacon, Sunday School teacher, librarian, and receptionist. She was a member of the Hanna Circle and the Presbyterian Women of Tres Rios Presbytery. She belonged to the En Amie Review Club and the Santa Rita Club. Sally was a voracious reader and enjoyed crossword puzzles. She was an avid bridge player and awarded the status of Golden Age Master in 2005. She will be remembered as a strong willed woman who loved her family and friends, served others and shared her opinion whether you wanted to hear it or not.
Sally was preceded in death by her husband, Wade, with whom she shared 37 years of marriage and her parents. She is survived by her sons Brian J. Whiteley of Arlington, TX, Nelson W. Whiteley of Midland, TX, and David D. Whiteley, daughter-in-law Libby E. Whiteley, grandchildren Aaron and Daniel Whiteley all of Albuquerque, NM; her sister, Jane Johnson, niece Jo Johnson and nephew Bill Johnson all of Ft. Worth, TX.
A memorial service will be held at First Presbyterian Church on Friday, July 9, 2010 at 11:00 AM. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to St. Andrews Presbyterian Mission, 1708 N. Ft Worth, PO Box 2431, Midland, TX 79702, the Deacon's Fund at First Presbyterian Church, 800 W. Texas Ave, Midland, TX 79701 or a charity of your choice.
