

Sterling Young Jr., "Young Young," beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away on January 26, 2025, in Midland, Texas, at the age of 71. He was born on January 28, 1953, to Sterling Young Sr. and Charity Sue Hoyle-Young Lawrence.
Sterling was a proud graduate of Carver Jr. High School, Midland High School, and Midland College, where he earned an associate degree in business. Throughout his career, Sterling worked at various places, including Dellwood Mall, Kmart, and the Midland Reporter-Telegram. He also served in the United States Air Force, working in central supply.
Sterling's family was the center of his world. He was married to Rita Young for 22 years. He had three children. He is survived by Rita; son Sterling Lamont Young III of Irving, TX; son Jeremy Parnell Young (Dani) of Round Rock, TX; and daughter Michelle Darden-Jefferson of Dallas, TX. He also leaves behind his cherished brothers: Lester and wife Laura Young of Midland, Blaisdell Young of Midland, Ervin K. Young of Midland, and Terry L. Young and wife Donna of Rowlett, TX. His sisters include Juliette Young of Denver, CO, Deborah F. Young of Midland, TX, and Gloria Denise Young of Midland, TX. He is also survived by six grandchildren, including Miles Young, Sterling Young IV and Mia Younga; a host of nieces and nephews, cousins, Aunt Ophelia Hurd, and Uncle James Young (Uncle Smokey).
Sterling was preceded in death by his parents, Sterling Young Sr. and Charity Sue Hoyle-Young Lawrence, and his brothers George Wayne Bedford, Chester Young, and Norman Young.
Sterling was also the companion of his beloved dog, Shadow. He formed deep friendships over the years, and one of his closest friends, Joe Post, brought him great joy. Sterling was an active member of Faith Temple Church of God in Christ.
In his free time, Sterling enjoyed reading, watching football and basketball, and spending time at the Senior Center, Casa de Amigos, and his favorite spot, Whataburger, where he loved enjoying his morning coffee. He was a devoted fan of the Dallas Cowboys and the LA Lakers, often cheering passionately for his teams.
The family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to Dr. Early and his staff, as well as the ICU team at Midland Memorial for their care and support during Sterling’s final days.
The family will receive friends for visitation on Thursday, February 6, 2025 from 9:00-11:00 am at Ellis Funeral Home followed by funeral services which will begin at 11:00 am.
