Born in Woburn, Massachusetts, on April 1, 1930, to Bernard Basil Welch and Marie Regina Vandewater, Christine grew up in Burlington, Vermont, before her family moved to Orange, New Jersey, and later settled in Woodside, Queens, New York, in 1940. She graduated from the High School of the Blessed Sacrament in New York, NY, on June 22, 1947.
Christine married James Vincent Malloy on December 31, 1950, at Fort Jackson, South Carolina. Together they built a family that was the center of her world. She always looked forward to family gatherings, especially holidays, birthdays, and BBQs. She dedicated much of her later life to caring for her great-grandsons, Oliver and Declan. Christine also enjoyed traveling, touring Europe and developing a special fondness for Italy. She was a communicant at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Richmond, Virginia.
Early in her career, Christine held positions at New York Telephone and Metropolitan Life Insurance in New York City, and Methodist Hospital in Brooklyn, New York. She later worked for Standard and Poor's International while also attending the College of Staten Island. After relocating to Virginia, she applied her skills at Philip Morris, Ethyl Corporation, and ABB Ltd in Richmond.
A talented artisan, Christine pursued a variety of crafts throughout her life, including making porcelain dolls, quilting, knitting, and creating jewelry. Sewing, a pursuit inspired by her seamstress grandmother, was a particular passion.
Christine was preceded in death by her parents, her former husband, James, her two sons, Christopher and Peter Malloy and her siblings Michael Vandewater Welch and Sheila Marie Welch Lee.
She is survived by her loving children: Kathleen Malloy of Brooklyn, NY; James Malloy (Andrea) of Harpers Ferry, WV; Marianne Scott of Midlothian, VA; and Thomas Malloy (Rosemarie) of Staten Island, NY. She also leaves behind her cherished grandchildren: Jessica Scott, Matthew Scott, Alison Malloy Hawkins (Colby), Ryan Malloy, Kaitlin Malloy, Jenna Malloy, Thomas Malloy, and Alyssa Malloy, as well as great-grandchildren Oliver, Declan, Clare, and Colin.
No visitation is planned. A private burial will be scheduled later at Calvary Cemetery in South Portland, Maine.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to the Little Sisters of the Poor.
