He is survived by his devoted wife, Kathy, whom he was married to for 57 years; sons Michael and Jim, both of whom were constant sources of love and support. Jim is also the proud father of Dan’s cherished grandchildren, Mya Grace and Luke, two of Dan’s greatest joys. He especially loved sharing stories about them and was always eager to talk about their lives and accomplishments. Dan also remained close with his former daughters-in-law, Jane Holmes, and Jocelyn Blanchard, both of whom were important parts of his life. He held Jim’s fiancée, Kadie Sauer, close to his heart as well.
Dan proudly served in the U.S. Marines, an experience that shaped his discipline, resilience, and deep sense of duty—values he carried with him throughout his life. Even in his later years, he could often be seen wearing his U.S. Marines ball cap with pride. He never let his sons forget the importance of a polished appearance, often reminding them to keep their shoes shined—just one of the many lessons passed down from his time in uniform.
In his professional life, he was known for his leadership in the insurance industry, particularly at the Ohio Casualty Insurance Company. He earned respect for his knowledge, integrity, and strong work ethic, leaving a lasting impact on both his colleagues and the industry.
Dan had a lifelong passion for collecting rare books and antiques, each carefully chosen for its historical significance. He loved sharing his collection with others, often gifting books to those he thought might appreciate them—even if they hadn’t asked.
A friendly and approachable man, Dan never met a stranger. He had a unique ability to connect with people, turning many of his conversations into lasting friendships. His warmth and lighthearted nature made those around him feel at ease, and he always had a kind word for anyone who crossed his path.
Dan believed deeply in fairness and justice. His strong sense of right and wrong led him to stand up for what he believed in, even when it wasn’t easy.
Dan’s presence, wisdom, and steady influence will be profoundly missed by all who knew him. His legacy lives on in the lives he touched—through his family, his friendships, and the professional and community circles where he made a lasting impression. Grounded in a strong faith, Dan lived with purpose and conviction. His values, humor, and generosity will continue to shape and inspire those he leaves behind.
A private graveside memorial will be followed by a celebration of Dan’s life for close family and friends. Details will be shared when available.
