HENDERSON, Edward Moncure "Shakey," of Richmond, entered eternal life on Thursday, March 10, 2016. He was born in Fredericksburg, Va., on May 5, 1937, to Nannie Waller Moncure Del Monaco and Luke M. Henderson. He grew up between Stafford, Va., and Fresno, Calif.
While in California he served in the U.S. Air Force as a jet engine mechanic then came to Chester, Va., to make his home. Shakey was self-employed in a very successful masonry company and later as a custom homebuilder and developer. He loved life, to laugh, have fun, and could be found most Friday nights at the Richmond Shag Club, where he loved to dance. He never knew a stranger and entertained everyone with his life experiences and humorous family stories. As his health declined, his final wish was to "become a butterfly and flutter away." Shakey was devoted to his family and friends.
He is survived by his loving son, Edward M. Henderson Jr.(Sally); daughter, Debbie Henderson; brothers, Thomas Del Monaco III, Joseph (Hope) Del Monaco; grandsons, Adam Moncure Henderson and Josh Moncure Henderson; uncle, Henry Moncure (Dee Dee); aunt, Betty Jean Moncure; as well as numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, family members and many close friends who spent his final days with him. A special survivor is Dian Peterson, who loved and cared for Shakey for many years through sickness and in health. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him; may he forever rest in peace.
A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, March 26, 2016, at Woody Funeral Home, 1020 Huguenot Rd., Midlothian, Va., from 1 to 3 p.m.
