Elaine Rae Parker

Elaine Rae Werner Parker passed away Thursday, May 30, 2019 from complications of dementia. She was born in Charlottesville, Virginia to Kathleen Barbour Werner and Edwin H. Werner in December of 1944. She was a member of the class of 1962, the first graduating class of William Fleming High School in Roanoke. There she was active in drama and choir. Finishing Emory And Henry College in three years, Elaine began her education career in Washington County, Virgina, continuing in Roanoke County and in Charlotte, NC. Teaching was her passion, in Pre-School at St. Mark’s United Methodist Church Preschool, Chesterfield, in kindergarten, in grade school and adult education. Mrs Parker had a lengthy career teaching kindergarten at Huguenot Academy (now Blessed Sacrament). Elaine was also affiliated with Sylvan and Huntington tutoring centers, where she assumed leadership and management roles. She and her husband, Vic, were resident managers for two Blue And Gray Self-Storage facilities.
Survivors include her husband of 53 years, Vic Parker; son, Chris, (Tonia), granddaughter Scarlett, grandson, Sammy, of Woodbridge; son Scott, (JoAnna) and grandsons Dylan and Wyatt of Mechanicsville and her beloved Weimaraner, Molly. She had been a member of St. Mark’s United Methodist Church in Chesterfield.
Elaine loved the beauty of flowers and was a talented and awarded flower show competitor. She served as President of Oakland Garden Club in Roanoke, of Pocono Garden Club in the Richmond area and of the Roanoke Garden Council. A memorial service will be held Wednesday, June 5, 2019 at 3:00 p.m. at St. Mark’s United Methodist Church, 11551 Lucks Lane, Midlothian, VA 23114 379-1655.
