DAVIDSON, Ernest L., Sr., 91, of Chesterfield, beloved father and grandfather, went to his eternal Home to meet his Lord on August 24, 2012. We know that he and his wife of 68 years, Christine, who preceded him in death in 2008, are rejoicing together in God’s presence. Ernest was blessed to be able to reside at home until his death. Ernest was born in Lynchburg, Va. to Henry and Lillian Davidson and was one of four children, all of whom preceded him in death.
Ernest was a Pearl Harbor survivor and was proud to have served his country aboard the U.S.S. Phoenix. He tenure in the U.S. Navy was from 1938 to 1947. After discharge from the Navy, he went to work with C&P Telephone Company and in 1962 was transferred to Richmond. He retired from C&P in 1985. He is survived by his three children (and their spouses), Linda D. Coe (Andy), Ernest Lee Davidson, Jr. (Paula) and Ivan F. Davidson (Kathy). Eight grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren were blessed to have called him “Papa”. Ernest loved working in his flower gardens and his yard. He was active in his church where he served faithfully until his health declined. He will be greatly missed by all those that knew him, but mostly by his children and grandchildren who relied on his love and example of faithfulness to God, his country and his family. The family will always be grateful to the loving care given to Ernest during the last couple of years by his caregiver companions, Carolyn, Michelle, Vickie, Dallas and Cheryle. These dear ladies cared for him with a Christ-like love.
His remains rest at the Huguenot Chapel of Woody Funeral Home, 1020 Huguenot Road, where funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to service. Friends and family are invited to gather after the service at the home of his daughter in Bon Air for a time of celebration and remembrance. Graveside services will be private.
