

Hue Thi Khuu Lam, 78, died on October 18, 2012. She was born on July 6, 1934 in Tra Vinh, Vietnam, to Ngoc Khanh Khuu and Thi Nhut Son. She grew up in Vietnam and attended both Vietnamese and Chinese schools. She went abroad for college and received her undergraduate degree from National Taiwan Normal University, widely recognized as one of Taiwan’s elite institutions of higher education. She then attended National Chengchi University, where she received a master degree in 1963. She married her husband on June 16, 1963. She returned to Vietnam and worked for the Education Ministry of the Vietnamese Government. In 1975, Mrs. Lam escaped with her six children from Vietnam to Taiwan, where she taught philosophy and English. In 1984, Mrs. Lam and her family were sponsored by her older sister to come to the United States. Mrs. Lam settled in Newport News, Virginia and raised her family.
Mrs. Lam is survived by her husband, Xuan Lam; daughter, Sharleen Lam and son-in-law, Poon Leung; daughter, Vanna Lam and son-in-law, Guo Shi; daughter, Linh Li and son-in-law, George Li; daughter, San Lam; son, Alex Lam and daughter-in-law, Li Li; daughter, Shian Luong and son-in-law, Dong Luong; and 18 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild.
She spoke several languages including Vietnamese, Mandarin, Cantonese, Cambodian and English. She enjoyed reading, gardening and travel. She devoted much of her life to education and helping others.
