Hugh was preceded in death by his parents, Vernie Hugh and Isabelle, his sister, Anne Marie and his dog Snoops.
Hugh is survived by the love of his life and wife, Helen, his son, Gary (Sara) and grandsons, Andrew (Helen) and Matthew (Missy). He is also survived by many cherished friends and family members.
Born and raised in Charlotte County, Virginia, Hugh learned a great work effort from his time on the farm. Lessons that shared the steady, humble and dependable man he became. After graduating from Randolph Henry High School, he moved to Richmond to work for Phillip Morris and Helen soon joined him to begin their life in the big City and later settling in Chesterfield/Midlothian. He enjoyed his career and then embraced his retirement.
He “didn’t have to go to work at Ukrops”, as Helen had joked, but instead, retirement gave him more time for the things he loved, sports, poker nights, gardening, house chores, supporting Ramsey Methodist Church and above all family. He often said “My family has meant the world to me."
Never a big traveler, his Ramsey friends encouraged H&H to travel and Hugh recently indicated that Hawaii was his favorite destination. (He also enjoyed the casino trips as well). In more recent years, lunches at Subway/Arbys with his bride was a favorite pastime.
We know he always had a smile on his face and kind things to say to others and his family appreciates all the kindness that family, friends and caregivers showed to him.
The family will receive friends from 2-3pm on Sunday, February 1, at Woody Funeral Home, Midlothian Chapel. A funeral service will begin at 3pm. Interment will be private.
In lieu of flowers in this Cold weather, contributions may be made to Ramsey Methodist Church, in Richmond VA or the Parkinsons Foundation.
