

John Reginald "Reg," 84, of Bon Air, Va., the youngest of eight children, passed away peacefully at his daughter's residence in Markham, Va., on February 13, 2013. He was the widower of Audrey Lea Roberts and was also preceded in death by his son, Dean Hill Roberts. He is survived by his children, Bryant Corbin Roberts, Marcia Elizabeth Rosenberger and her husband, Steve, Marjeanne Virginia Nicewonger and her husband, Doug; and their mother, Mary Corbin Roberts. Also, six grandchildren, Jessie, Heather, Emily, Sam, Annie and Jacob. Reg was a member of the Civil War Roundtable and was a Civil War Reenactor with the Knibbs Battery. He was a member of Sons of Confederate Veterans. He was active in coaching Richmond area olympic weight lifters at the Bon Air Athletic Club and was certified as an Olympic weight lifting judge. Reg was an active member of the Bon Air community and helped establish the Bon Air Community Center and pool. Many area adults were coached by him in little league football as members of the Bon Air Rebels. The Rebels were known for having seven winning championship seasons in a row under Reg's coaching. Reg introduced North Carolina pig pickin to the Bon Air and surrounding communities with an annual pig roast at his home. Reg was known for always having a story and a joke to tell and his love for animals. He will be missed by all of those whose lives he touched. A celebration of his life will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. at the Huguenot Chapel, Woody Funeral Home, 1020 Huguenot Road. Services and burial will follow at Wilkerson Funeral Home in Greenville, N.C. and Maplewood Cemetery in Mt. Olive, N.C. Online condolences may be made at
