Joyce Davis Spiers passed away peacefully with family by her side on January 22, 2025. She was preceded in death by her mother, Eunice Simons Davis; father Linwood Davis; brothers Linwood Earl Davis and Arnold Elmo Davis; husband Emmett Monroe Spiers, and her eldest son Emmett Monroe Spiers Jr.
She is survived by her son, Dennis Spiers; daughter-in-law Erika Spiers; grandchildren Ryan Emmett Spiers (Brittany), and Samantha Spiers (Nic).
Born in Richmond, Virginia to Eunice Simons Davis and Linwood Davis, Joyce grew up in South Richmond with her two brothers, Linwood Earl Davis and Arnold Elmo Davis. She attended John Marshall High School where she would meet her future husband Emmett Monroe Spiers. They married in October 1950 and raised two children. Joyce lost her husband of 59 years at the time of his passing in 2009, and her oldest son, Emmett Jr. when he passed in 2019. Joyce moved to Yorktown, VA in 2022 to be closer to her two grandchildren, Ryan and Samantha, who she loved more than life itself and her youngest son, Dennis and his wife Erika.
Her oldest son, Emmett Jr had muscular dystrophy and it was her life's work to care for him. When he passed she felt as though she had lost her purpose. She loved her grandchildren unconditionally, spent untold amounts of time with them, took them on amazing vacations and was always there for them whenever they needed her.
A graveside service will be held at 2 pm on Dale Memorial Park on Thursday, January 30, 2025.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Muscular Dystrophy Association.
The family would like to thank all those who had a part in her life, especially those who helped her with her son and his situation. We would like to thank the staff of Harmony of the Peninsula and Riverside Hospital for all they did to help her these last few years to make her comfortable and happy.
