Lorraine Marie Prokopuk

PROKOPUK, Lorraine Marie Payne, of Midlothian, our beloved mother, passed away unexpectedly Saturday, October 17, 2015. She was preceded by her mother and father, Olga and Theodore Prokopuk; and her brothers, Don and Ted Prokopuk. Lorraine is survived by three children, David Payne, Lorri Taylor and Lisa Williams; four grandchildren, Derrik, Sydney, Brent and Santana; one great-grandson, Lenny; nieces and nephews, Dianne, Mike and Nicky Prokopuk; sisters-in-law, Peggy and Gitta Prokopuk; her best friend, Patricia Lewis; and the extended Payne family.

Lorraine was born in Detroit, Michigan in 1947 and found her way to Richmond in 1966. This is where she would begin her network of lifelong friends, co-workers and family. Raising her family and co-owning a construction business and river resort on the James kept her busy through the 1970s and 80s. In 1986, she started her administration career with Dale Memorial Park and by 2006, she moved to Westhampton Memorial Park, where she was most recently employed. For her 28-year career, she was an invaluable employee with a "wealth of knowledge" about the cemetery industry. Lorraine was passionate about her work, but fiercely passionate about working in her yard. She was proud to be first generation Ukrainian in this country. Lorraine loved the sun and being tan, the beach and working out, the art of letter writing and taking pictures. Lorraine's heart though was forever wrapped around her beloved cats. She can now rest with her most cherished cat, "Pig." We all will miss Lorraine, our mother, friend and family member for eternity and pray for the day that we will meet again soon in a much greater place.

Her remains rest at the Huguenot Chapel of Woody Funeral Home, 1020 Huguenot Road, where the family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, and where funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Friday.
