Mike was born in Richmond, on June 11, 1944, to Addie Lena Ferguson and Willard Thornton Paulette. A graduate of Douglas Freeman High School, Mike earned a bachelor’s degree at Hampden–Sydney College and a Masters of Commerce from the University of Richmond.
