

Paul H., 94, of Richmond, Va., died June 5, 2013 at home. He was preceded in death by his beloved children, Holly A. Roper and Bruce Nicholas; and his brother, William Nicholas. He is survived by his wife, Louise B. Nicholas; three children, Kathryn N. Davis, Paul W. Nicholas and Nancy L. Nicholas; two grandchildren, Marc Roper and Janet Henderson; as well as six great-grandchildren and two nephews. Born in Northampton, Pa. of Pennsylvania Dutch origin, he graduated salutatorian with a chemistry degree from Muhlenberg College in Northampton. While stationed at a U.S. Army base in Boston, Mass., he met and married his wife of 67 years, Louise. He retired a Lt. Colonel from the U.S. Army. "Nick" loved gardening, working with his hands and U.S. canal history. He was dedicated to making life better for his family. He was a chemist at UPACO Adhesives in Richmond, Va., with 30 years of service. The family will receive friends Monday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Huguenot Chapel of Woody Funeral Home, 1020 Huguenot Rd. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Edward the Confessor Catholic Church on Tuesday June 11, 2013 at 10:30 a.m. Interment will follow at 2 p.m. at the Virginia Veterans Cemetery at Amelia.
