Peggy Sue Sauvager, 79, of Midlothian, passed away peacefully at home on August 23, 2025, following a courageous and inspiring battle with cancer. She was preceded in passing by her mother Susie Sparks, her stepfather Roy Paul Sparks, her father Hugh Weaver, and her beloved maternal grandparents, Littleberry and Jennie Harper. She is survived by her devoted husband, Jimmy Sauvager; daughter, Melinda Whitehead (Russ); sons, Jay Robinson and David Robinson; stepson, Michael Sauvager; grandchildren, Kirsten Edwards (Channing), Ryan Whitehead, Justin Whitehead, Michael Whitlow (Lauren), Cody Evans (Lilly), Nikki Henderson (Kiellien), Harper Robinson, Brady Addison, Hunter Flens, Logan Flens, and Owen Sauvager; great-grandchildren, Alex Whitlow, Ellie Evans, Adlee Evans, Jagger Evans, and Myra Henderson; and a host of cousins she lovingly considered her siblings.
Married to Jimmy Sauvager on August 27, 1988, they would have celebrated their 37th wedding anniversary the week after she passed. Her "Honey” is grateful for all of the years God allowed them to share together.
She was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Her favorite thing was just spending time with her family. She loved having her family over for meals together. Most of the after-dinner conversations led to stories about the Harper family history and would last far into the night, but it filled her heart with joy to share these stories and memories. No matter what was going on in her life, she always made a point to do her best to attend, if possible, every special moment in their lives. These memories will carry her family through the years ahead and she will forever live in their hearts and minds.
Peggy overcame breast cancer before fighting a long and courageous battle with lung cancer. She never gave up and always trusted God with the plan He had for her life. She was an inspiration and a walking testimony of the power of prayer.
From the time Peggy Sue was a young girl, she knew and loved the Lord with all her heart, mind, and soul and wanted others to know Him like she did. She lived her life by the Golden Rule, treating others the way she would want to be treated. She was a member of the former Parham Hills Christian Church in Henrico for many years, but found a new home at Southwest Church of Christ after moving to the Chesterfield area. Her passion was working in the children’s ministry at Southwest Church of Christ, where she taught in the nursery for many years. To her, the nursery was not about babysitting, it was teaching the babies about Jesus. Every Sunday you could find her in the nursery teaching songs like “Jesus Loves Me” with accompanying hand movements which brought the children joy and kept them engaged. She loved her “babies” and delighted in seeing her former students grow in their walk with the Lord over the years. The Sunday before her passing, Peggy Sue was so grateful to have been able to attend Trinity Baptist Church of Mineral’s annual homecoming service (the third Sunday in August every year), an event Harper family members have attended for over 100 years. Peggy Sue never missed this annual event and prays Harper family members will continue the legacy into the future.
Peggy was an employee of State Planters Bank, which became United Virginia Bank, then Crestar, and then Suntrust. She retired from Suntrust Bank, where she worked in various departments and roles throughout her career, but mainly in Check Adjustments. The friendships she made at the bank have lasted throughout the years since she retired. She loved dressing up every year as part of the bank’s annual Christmas party and will always be remembered as “Mrs. Claus”. During this time, she also worked as an Independent Tupperware Consultant and achieved Manager status through her team building, sales, and exceptional customer service. She earned the use of a new company car every two years, which is quite an achievement. Her customers loved her and she was known as everyone’s “Favorite Tupperware Lady”. After retiring from Suntrust, she went on to start a new career as an Independent Beauty Consultant with Mary Kay Cosmetics and was still an active consultant when she passed. She was affectionately known as everyone’s “Favorite Mary Kay Lady”. Peggy achieved Sales Director status through her team building, sales, and excellent customer service. She earned a company car, jewelry, and numerous awards, recognition, and prizes. But all of her career achievements combined were still not as rewarding as the friendships she made along the way.
She loved the Atlanta Braves, butterflies, candy with peanut butter in it, and the new television show “Matlock” starring Kathy Bates. Her favorite actor was Jimmy Stewart and her favorite color was yellow. She also loved the songs “Good Morning” from the movie “Singin’ in the Rain” and “Happy Talk” from the movie “South Pacific”.
Peggy Sue was grateful and thankful for all the love, support, and prayers from her family, friends, and medical teams. Her family is also grateful and thankful to and for everyone who prayed for her, called her, cooked meals, and found special ways to bless her. These acts of kindness blessed her family as well. There is a long list of people the family would like to personally thank and they hope you will sign the guestbook at the funeral home or church and leave your contact information, so they can reach out to you directly. At this time, the family would like to give special thanks to her Southwest Church of Christ family, the members of Trinity Baptist Church of Mineral, her Mary Kay family, her BNI on Fire family, Dr. William Irvin, Jr., and staff at St. Francis Hospital’s Cancer Institute, Dr. Pravin Deshmukh and staff at Short Pump Primary Care, and Dr. Charles Nelson, III, and staff at Bon Secours Cardiology – Reynolds Crossing, her hospice team, and her Relay for Life of Central Virginia team and supporters.
