Shawn Thomas Henry of Chesterfield, VA, passed away on Monday, July 29, 2024 at the age of 44. He was preceded in death by his mother, Judith Zielinski Henry, and is survived by his father, Thomas James Henry; his three brothers, Ryan (Jen) and their children, Jadeyn and Aiden; Troy (Stephanie) and their children Taylor, Tyson, and Aaron; Chad (Jenny) and their children Kayla, Brett, and Anna; and sister, Shannon (Adam) and their children Ava and Lillian.
Shawn was born on November 1, 1979 in Milwaukee, WI. He briefly lived in St. Louis, MO as a toddler, and would settle in Charlottesville, Virginia at a young age, sparking a lifelong love for UVA athletics. He would finish out elementary, middle, and high school in Lunenburg County, where he graduated from Central of Lunenburg in 1998.
As a youngster, Shawn was an avid baseball fan and dedicated athlete. He would go on to become a star pitcher in high school, earning All-State honors and finishing his baseball career with a brief stint at the collegiate level. His love for sports, particularly baseball, was unparalleled. Also, a die-hard fan of the Wisconsin professional teams, he could often be found in front of the television, cheering on the Packers, Bucks, or Brewers, and frequently calling friends and family for a post-game discussion of the players and intricacies of the game. He also enjoyed spending time outdoors, throwing the ball with his siblings, and was very handy, often helping out with home projects. As the years went on, he developed an interest in cooking and was often experimenting with new recipes. He adored his six nieces, four nephews and family pets. We will miss so many things about Shawn, but most especially, his smile, and fierce loyalty to his family and closest friends.
A private memorial service will be held by his family in early September.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the American Diabetes Association in Shawn’s honor.
