He was preceded in death by his father Thomas J. Casey, mother Elizabeth McCarrick Casey, and brother Neil Casey.
He is survived by his wife, Susan; daughters Virginia Casey Quinn (Kerry), Lynn Casey, Heather Casey Williford, and Valerie Casey Anderson (Jason); granddaughters Erica Quinn, Shannon Quinn, Emilie Quinn Salesky (Alex), Whitney Williford, and Ruth Williford; and great grandson, Jonah Salesky; along with many nieces and nephews.
Tom was born in Philadelphia, PA on September 26, 1939. He attended Catholic schools through 12th grade. He graduated from LaSalle University having completed the ROTC program in 1961. He entered the U.S. Army, serving until 1968 and achieving the rank of Major. Continuing his education, he earned a master’s degree in business administration from Temple University.
Tom met his wife Susan, a Philadelphia school teacher, at a karate club in 1970. They were married in 1972. Tom and Sue moved to Columbus, OH in 1973 when Tom went to work for Reynolds Metals as a marketing manager. In 1977 he was moved to Midlothian, VA. Tom resigned from Reynolds in 1981 and started his own home improvement company which he managed until his death.
Tom was always a physical fitness enthusiast. He earned a black belt in karate, ran five Richmond marathons, and was a health club member for 45 years.
He served as president of his community association and was a member of the James River Kiwanis Club for many years where he served as secretary, president, and Lt. Governor of the Capital District. Tom loved reading the newspaper and keeping up with current events. For the past several years he attended a current events Sunday school class at Salisbury Presbyterian Church where he enjoyed the camaraderie and sharing of ideas. He never shied away from saying what was on his mind.
As a football fan he would root for the Philadelphia Eagles, Tennessee Volunteers, Virginia Tech Hokies, and Temple Owls.
At weddings you would often see Tom on the dance floor making odd moves that no one had ever seen before. He liked listening to music but could not remember the words to his favorite songs. While unloading the dishwasher he would always be humming a tune that no one was familiar with.
Tom will forever be remembered by his family and friends for his devotion to and love for his family, his quick wit, and ability to create spontaneous laughter no matter where he was or who he was with.
A memorial service will be held at 3 pm on Friday, April 11th at Salisbury Presbyterian Church, 13621 Salisbury Road, Midlothian, VA 23113.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Salisbury Presbyterian Church Music Ministry.
